Haven't The Nights Drawn In...

Hello again,

How the year has flown by. The clocks have gone back, and the nights have drawn in, Half-term and Halloween have come and gone. The All Blacks deservedly won the World Cup and the Villa have sacked Tim Sherwood. But don't let this or the long nights get you down, you can still do things; Graham has taken to dusk bike rides, where he is rewarded by an owl ariel display and escorted by a phalanx of bats as he cycles along the lanes with the dogs. Perhaps not everybody's idea of fun, but there are other (not so scary) things to do in Dorset over the Autumn and Winter months...

Salisbury is under 30 minutes away by car, and is well worth a visit. Some guests enjoyed a fantastic day at the

Cathedral with breathtaking views from the tallest spire in the UK, and an encyclopaedic commentary detailing the county's biggest cloister, the World's oldest working clock, together with the best surviving copy of the Magna Carta (who knew?). You could combine a visit to Salisbury Cathedral with the Christmas Market, from 26 November to 20 December. Did you know Christmas Markets in the UK were very popular until Oliver Cromwell banned the celebration of Christmas in the fashion people had become used to? Speaking of Cromwel, it was he who attacked and ruined Corfe Castle, a fantastic National Trust property close by in the Purbecks.

There is also a Christmas Craft Fair at Compton Acres on 14 & 15 November, as well as loads of stuff for all of the family going on at Moors Valley.

With the fantasic Art Deco Tivoli Theatre close by in Wimborne, you can take in some great acts, shows and films, which

is great for us, because no matter where you sit, you can sctually make out the people on the stage!

We've had a few guests who have visited Beaulieu and Haynes International Motor Museums (apparently we are equidistant from the two). Both are indoors, so perfect for a rainy day.

Here at HFH we aim to put a smile back on your face. There is a warm welcome, comfortable beds, a hearty breakfast to set you up for the day, and there is always cake...... Jayne has been experimenting again, and her Gin and Tonic sponge cake went down very well with the guests-hic, as did her Walnut and Buttermilk Sponge Sandwich, Magic Custard Cake and of course her Chocolate Brownies. You could always come along and join Graham for his November swim in the channel.... ( you may want to think about that one!) But whatever floats your boat, Dorset has something to offer, no matter what the weather.
